Circus Maximus was the very first Roman circus. Being built at about 6th century B.C., out of wood, Circus Maximus got caught on fire twice, at least two times the stands collapsed, and it has even been flooded! When they started building gates in 329, the gates were most likely just rows of open stalls, which did nothing to prevent flooding. In 196 an Arch was built in the circus, and in 167 a stage was also built in the circus. Today we have ruins where Circus Maximus once stood.
