The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean in the world. It touches the continents of North America, South America, Africa, and Europe. The climate is frozen in some areas of the Atlantic Ocean and humid and tropical in others. Tropical cyclones called hurricanes form in the western tropics off of the coast of Africa. These storms move westward towards South and North America. In the northern and southern polar regions of the Atlantic Ocean the surface of the water is covered with ice. In the deepest parts of the ocean, at the seafloor, there are mountains along what is called the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Icebergs and fog are also some dangereous hazzards that ships and other vessels traveling across the ocean need to be aware of. This big ocean has lots of interesting and unusual features.
