| Hanging
valleys form in mountain ranges when a glacier erodes
a part of the mountain at a faster or slower rate than at other places
on the mountains. Hanging valleys are found mostly toward the top
of the mountain. A glacier moves from the top of a mountain to the
bottom by following old dried up river beds. Hanging glaciers usually
form near streams that are part of the mountains river
drainage system. |

| Sometimes
after a glacier has melted away a waterfall
will flow over the hanging valley. |
