When a pahoehoe lava flow moved over a small slope a dome formation is made. This mostly happens when a crust forms on top of a lava flow and the lave below the crust forces a dome of crust upward. Sometimes if the lava cracks the lava inside the tumulus will drain out and leave a hollow cave.
