The Ring of Fire is a name for the area that surrounds most of the Pacific Ocean. The land between the edges of the Pacific Ocean is called the Pacific Basin. In the basin there are many trenches and ridges where the land is growing along ridges and being destroyed in trenches. Islands made from volcanoes form in arcs along the tops of ridges. Many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur along the Ring of Fire. Over one-half of the volcanoes on earth today are found on the Ring of Fire.
