Strombolian eruptions cause lava to explode from a vent and then a flow of lava comes out of the volcano. This happens over and over again until the volcano is finished erupting. Gases inside the volcano build up and then release a spray of lava that turns into a lava flow. The lava flow slows down until the gases build up again. The lava pieces that are thrown out of the volcano are bombs that take on a rounded shape as they fly through the air.
