Listening and Notetaking

Listen more than you write.

If you try to write down everything then you could miss something important.

Listen for these clues to tell you what would be important to write down.

"Listen to what I am saying..."
This is important..."
"Because of this..."
"These results are..."
Let's go over this again..."
Don't forget this..."
This will be on the test..."
Make sure you know this..."

Take notes on a full sheet of paper and be sure to label it with:

a subject
page number
date

Keep your notes neat.

Use a good pencil or pen that won't smear.
Write clearly and neatly so that you can read what you wrote.
Keep all of your notes from one subject together.

Reading to Learn

Keep your mind on the subject.
Look at the charts, maps and illustrations.
1. Look at the figures and tables included in your text.
2. These can help you better understand what you are reading.
Write a summary or bulletted list in your own words.
1. Read it.
2. Write it.
3. Say it out loud.

*Are wasting your time or are you using it wisely?

*It is important to be able to tell the difference!

Time Management is a MUST!

Always have the following things:

A " To Do " list
-write down things that need to be done.
A weekly planner such as an agenda
-keep a heads up on upcoming activities.
A long term family planner such as a calendar on the refridgerator
-so you know what is happening for the month. Work on this with your family!

Plan A USEFUL Schedule.

Make time for sleep, eating, and even freetime to do whatever!
-don't get overtired or overwork yourself
Schedule assignments
-work on assignments ahead of time=less worry!
Waiting until the last minute can cause unneeded stress.

Making A Schedule

Get an agenda from school or
Have your parents buy you a planner from the store.

Tips and My Advice

I have some tips for you and advice for you if you want to get better grades and be better in school.

Take your time on tests and if you do not know the answer, choose your best guess and check your answers after you have finshed the test.
Try to study for the test with your family and study the hardest that you can.
Make sure that you know all that you are doing on the test so when you get the test you are not so confused and do not know what to do.

Growing Up As A Kid

When you grow up you are going to have your ups and downs. Talk to your parents about these ups and downs and hopefully they will give you tips and strategies for lifelong learning!!!

For Parents

You should listen to your children and talk out their problems. You should not yell at them because when you are a child you have so much to learn about making decisions and being independent.

Kids, if you are having trouble and you need help, talk to your parents. They'll will be able to guide you and give you answers so that you will be able to sort out your problems and succeed.
