**Lots of kids are late for class because they are unorganized.**
Here are some tips to help students be organized!
Students should:
1. Color code folders, notebooks, binders, papers, etc.
For example: use a red folder and notebook for science,
then a blue folder and notebook for math, etc.
2. Use an assignment book or an agenda.
3. Make a routine for working on homework.
4. Be prepared for the next day.
Have your bags packed (including gym sneakers, homework, library books, etc)
and set out by the door along with your coat and any other equipment you may need.
5. Make a checklist of things you need to do.
6. Have a weekly clean-up.
Once a week clean out your homework folder, backpack, desk, etc.
Keep important papers you may need again and recycle those that are no longer needed.
7. Make a special study space.
Always sit in the same space to study and do your homework.
For example at a desk in your room, the dining room table, etc.
Be sure that any materials you may need are kept in that area such as pencils, tape, glue, etc.
8. Make a special study time.
If you need a break right after school then take it.
Go outside and play for 30 minutes then come in and get right to work on your homework.
9. Keep notebooks neat!
Don't write uneccessary things all over them.
10. Put papers in folders!
You may want a folder to put your nightly homework in to keep it safe and organized.
Parents can help too!:
1. Give your child support.
2. Check over your child's homework and sign their agenda.
Don't do the homework or give them the right answer if they get a question wrong. If you want to help, point out the questions that are wrong and maybe discuss the correct strategy to get the right answer.
The agenda should show any and all homework your child has.
3. Keep a master calendar of important dates for the whole family to see.
Put this in a central location such as the refridgerator and encourage them to add their activities too.
4. Help your kids as needed.
They need to learn how to be independent at some point, but still look for proper guidance.
5. Assist your child in setting a routine to get ready for the next day.
6. Make a to do list.
7. Have them organize their things around the house as a practice for a much needed skill in school.
8. Allow your child to be a problem solver.
9. Model appropriate behaviors and skills.
