THE BRIGHTEST STAR

Do you know what the brightest star in our galaxy is?
If you said SUN you were correct. The sun is the star just like other stars we see in the sky. It looks bigger and brighter than any other star because it is closer to the Earth - just 93 million miles away. This may seem far - but think about this - the next closest star is about 20 trillion miles away! Sun is so big that over a million earths could fit in it! But for a star - it's just about medium size.

WHAT MAKES SUN?
The sun made mainly of hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas changes into helium in process called Nuclear Fusion. Lots of energy is created. This energy heats the Earth.
SUN SPOTS, PROMINENCES, AND FLARES

Sun's surface is gassy and always changes.
Sun Spots are dark patches on the surface of the sun. They are darker than the rest of the sun because they are cooler.
Giant explosions of heat and light are called solar flares.
Loops of fiery gas that stretch in the space are called prominences.
