A vulture is a very common desert bird which usually eats off of dead carcasses. These birds soar for hours waiting to see or smell something to eat with their great eyesight and great sense of smell.
Turkey vultures or “buzzards” are usually not seen on a windless or slightly breezy day. This is because they soar on the wind so that they can save up their energy. They fly for hours stopping only a couple of times to look for food or dead animals.
The vulture is a large black bird with a small reddish, orangish, brownish head. It is about 25-32" from wingtip to wingtip in length. It usually can be seen in forests or open country. There are many different kinds of vultures.
Although vultures are one of people’s most hated birds, they actually do not do anything bad. They do not kill anybody, or anything. They are just being polite by cleaning up the remains. Many vultures die from not finding enough food to survive.
