Rattlesnakes

Rattlesnakes are the most common of all desert snakes. There are over twenty different species of rattlesnakes in the United States. Most of them do not even reach the length of two feet. The largest ones can reach the length of over seven feet.

A rattlesnake’s venom is usually fatal to humans. Luckily, it is very easy to avoid these snakes. All rattlesnakes have a rattle at the end of their tail which is how they got their name. If a rattlesnake feels like it is in danger in any way, or if a human is too close, it will shake a rattle making a warning sound. If you hear the sound and do not get away, you are in deep trouble!!!

Rattlers usually eat small rodents like mice, small rabbits, squirrels, and lizards. Rattlesnakes give live birth while most others lay eggs. Rattler’s skins are also used to make jewelry, purses, boots, and clothes.

Rattlesnakes can be easily distinguished from other types of snakes. This is good because it helps in identification so one can avoided getting bitten. Rattlesnakes can stun and kill larger prey that most snakes would never be able to. These reptiles will probably outlive humans with all of their survival techniques.
