Title: Follow My Leader

Author: James B. Garfield

Summary: Jimmy Carter is a boy who gets blind.  He gets blinded from a firecracker the day after the fourth of July.  He and his friends fought over if they should throw the firecracker.  Even though he was the first person to say to though it, he then decided not to through it.  Then unexpectedly Mike, who was the first person to say not to throw it he was the one who through the firecracker and accidentally made Jimmy Carter blind.  Reading this book can help you understand what it is like to be blind.  Jimmy Carter learns how to walk and read.  Jimmy gets a guide dog named Sirius.  When he got his dog at the school, he declared that his dog’s name should be Leader.  One of his teachers was named Mr.Weeks.  Jimmy wanted to name his dog himself.  After all, Jimmy turned out okay.

This story taught us a lesson.  It taught us that just because somebody is disabled does not mean that they cannot do the same things you do.  They can do everything you do but just in a different.  Also, we learned that people that are disabled are not helpless.  Sure they need help with things, but they can still do everything.  This book can help you  learn about guide dogs and blind people.  I liked this book because it taught us a lot about guide dogs and blind people, and that is what got me interested in this project.  We hope you read and enjoy Follow my Leader as much as we did.

Braille is the writing that any blind person will use. They will run their fingers over the circular bumps lightly and read that way.
