Looking ahead at the future of the local Japanese in Hawaii we still see many more changes to come. Although the Japanese are ranked second in the population of Hawaii, we may eventually see a drop in full blooded Japanese. Instead, there may be an increase in a Japanese mixture race. But this doesn't mean that traditions and culture will be forgotten; instead we may see other nationalities getting involved and educated in the Japanese culture.
The Japanese language is offered in many schools throughout the islands today. But in the future we may see Japanese language as part of the educational program in Hawaii just as the Hawaiian language is now. Japanese tourist will become our main visitors. The hotels in Hawaii will require Japanese language as a must to become employed by the company. We will begin to see more Japanese schools opening up. Presently we only have a handful of Japanese schools.
More schools being built. The martial arts may replace the spas and fitness centers. The community young and old will find recreation and exercise through Aikido, Karate and Judo. Because these sports require discipline and respect, we will see a drop in crime.
These are just some of the many changes that may happen in the near future. But until then, the Japanese community must continue to keep the traditions and culture alive by remembering their past generations and the sacrifice they made to have a better tomorrow.
