This is the process in which a fifth graders' peers and teachers edit
the finished draft of a poem.
The fifth graders were to exchange
papers with a peer and discuss it, or bring it to a nearby teacher or
teacher's aide to read. Once the copies were edited, the poem was returned to
the student and was self-edited. Self-editing means the fifth grader
looks over the poem with its corrections and compares it with the
unedited poem. The writer then rewrote the poem with the corrections
and made sure it was appropriate for the occasion. This process taught the
students the basics in the writing rubric, which they will learn more about next
year. This also prepares them for sixth grade.
When the final written copy was finished, the papers were typed and sent to the author. You will learn more about this on the next page. Click on the link below to see how the final process was completed.
