The Story

The story of the Titanic probably began in 1907 when the White Star Line first began to plan the Titanic and its sister ship, Olympic. The Titanic wasn't done in May of 1911. The major building of the ship was completed, though. It then had to be fitted out, which means adding furniture and fixtures to the interior and adding the masts and funnels to the exterior. After the finishing touches were added, the Titanic sailed on to Southampton England. After picking up passengers there, it sailed on to Cherbourg France. Then it made it's final stop at Queenstown. After the Titanic had been sailing for 4 days, it began to get multiple ice warnings from other ships. They ignored the warnings and continued on full speed ahead. At about 11:40pm the watch was about to change. The watchmen spotted an iceberg! They quickly told the bridge to turn. It was too late! The iceberg rammed the side of the Titanic. The captain ordered for the watertight doors to be closed. The doors weren't really watertight because they weren't sealed at the top! The passengers were waking up and they were very confused. Soon they began loading the women and children (mostly 1st class). Later the 3rd class passengers realized that all of the doors out of the 3rd class section were locked. At about 1:30 the ship's bow was completely under water. The Titanic sank in 2 pieces and took about 3 hours to actually reach the bottom. The world would be shocked!
