First Class

From the diary of: Elizabeth White

April 12, Friday-          Today I boarded the great ship Titanic. They say it is unsinkable, I wonder. It is just like a grand floating palace. The lounge is grander than on any other ship. I’ve been on luxury liners before and this is by far the most expensive. There is a swimming pool, a squash court and even a Turkish bath! The food is exquisite!

April 13, Saturday-   I slept soundly last night, I can hardly tell I’m on a ship! I got lost several times today, wandering grand hall after grand hall. This ship is so huge. I may even be sad to leave it when we reach New York.

April 14, Sunday-   My family and I attended the church service today. I saw some 2nd and 3rd class passengers. They were so poor. I had no idea that people lived like that!

Later-   After dinner tonight, I came back to my room early. I was writing in my journal when the ship suddenly jerked. the boilers also stop. I'll go see what the trouble is.

April 15, Monday-   I still can't get over it. The Titanic, the unsinkable, sank! It must have been past midnight. My mother and sister and I escaped in a lifeboat. My father and brother didn't survive. We have been rescued after being in the water for 5 hours. I'll try to forget this horrid experience forever. I won't discuss it ever. this truly will be shocking to the rest of the world!
