Constellations
A Constellation is a group of stars that can only be seen within a particular part of the night sky. It also relates to the part where a group of stars appears.
The sky has been divided into 88 constellations (areas) by astrologers. Ancient Greeks, Romans, and people from other civilizations saw the groups of stars in the northern 2/3 of the sky and named the constellations after animals and mythological creatures. Some constellations can only be seen in specific seasons because of the earth’s annual revolution around the sun. Some groups of stars that are well known form part of a constellation called asterisms. For example the big Dipper is part of the Constellation Ursa Major (Great Bear.) If you observed the stars for a year from the equator you would see all the constellations, yet if you were at the North or South Pole you would only see half.
