It is also known that if a male human captures a female selkie’s skin, that female will become his wife. Selkies act very much like mermaids, and they always find their way back home.

Some people believe
that there is a kingdom and king of selkies, and that female selkies can only
take human form on certain nights of the year such as Halloween, Daylight
Savings Time, and Midsummers Eve. There is a myth called "The Selkie that

giving birth to her pups. The fisherman was going to steal the pups to sell
their skin, but couldn’t because of the pain shown on the face of the mother.
