Vancouver Island Marmot

Appearance
It is the largest member of the squirrel family. It can grow from 5 to 7 kilograms. It has chocolate brown fur with white spots.
Range
It can be found on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and Canada.
Habitat
This animal likes to live in high mountain areas.
Food/Diet
They eat green vegetation such as wild plants, clover, alfalfa, snails, and insects.
Breeding
Adults mate underground during the spring. The average litter of pups is 3 and they don't emerge in early July.
Status
Marmots have been endangered since 1980. The population is fewer than 100 individuals. It is 1 of the world's rarest mammals.
