
Appearance
The red wolf closely resembles a coyote. It weighs from 18 to 29 kilograms and can grow to 65 inches in length. The male red wolves are larger than the female red wolves. It has a reddish brown color of fur.
Range
The red wolf can be found in the southeastern United States.
Habitat
The red wolf prefers warm, moist, densely vegetated, pine forests to live in.
Food/Diet
The red wolf eats rabbits, rice rats, cotton rats, and muskrats.
Breeding
The mating occurs in January through February. There are about 3 to 4 pups a litter.
Status
The red wolf was declared endangered in 1980.
