Appearance

These wild beasts have large heads, and a musk color. The bulls stand about 5 feet tall at the shoulder and coming in at 880 pounds. The females are much smaller. They grow up to 2 feet long in both sexes. The musk oxen have huge horns on top of their heads that look like sheep horns. Musk oxens have long shaggy brown hair that almost reaches their feet. The thick coat of hair sheds in the summer.


Range

It lives in northern Canada and Greenland. A new herd was introduced near Alaska.


Habitat

This massive mammal lives in the Tundra or Arctic biomes. Some of them even live on icecaps. They have such thick skin so they can endure the harsh winters up north.


Food/Diet

Musk oxen usually feed on grass and low growing plants such as lichen and willows to live on.


Breeding

The males will have a huge fight for the female of their choice continually. That is why 10% have died. The mating season is in May with a litter of 1 young after a total of 8 months after mating.


Status

Their numbers have come up to 150,000 but are still very endangered.
