Appearance

It is a small bluish gray bird with a bright yellow breast. This little buddy is an active and very and energetic bird and constantly twitches its tail while perching or singing a rich clear tune.


Range

The Kirtland's warbler nests in Michigan, but it is a Neotropical which means it migrates south into the Bahamas.


Habitat

They live in 8 acres of pine forested area. Nearly 90% of these birds nest near a sewage system or a stream.


Food/Diet

This species feeds primarily on insects, however it is known to eat on an array of food. The food is gathered by gleaning and fly catching on the wing.


Breeding

Their breeding season is usually from May to June. By late May a clutch of eggs have been laid. The female then incubates the eggs until 14 days and that are when they hatch.


Status

The kirtland's warbler is dying out because of lack of habitat.
