Appearance

It is the biggest member of the sandpiper family. These curlews have long legs and mainly live near the shore. Some of the eskimo curlews have black markings on the back, but are almost all brown. You can find them with a length of 28-100 centimeters long but most of that is their beautiful 15-centimeter long bill.

Range

It will nest in the Tundra biome, but the curlew migrates south into warmer biomes for the winter.

Habitat

When in the Tundra for the summer it is very cold with the ground permanently frozen and a little snow on the ground. Once they migrate down to South America in the winter it is much warmer.

Food/Diet

Eskimo curlews feed mostly on insects and seeds.

Breeding

They lay eggs in the Tundra region during summer.

Status

Some thought it was extinct until people saw some migrating near the Texas coast. Scientists think 23 survived.
