Appearance
They are a little bit smaller than the African lion, but
has been seen to grow up to 2.9 meters. Their mane is not as thick
but their elbow and tail tuft is. Adult gir males can weigh 160 to 190
kilograms while females weigh from 110 to 120 kilograms. The fur color
is a light tan brown with sometimes-huge patches of dark brown on their
stomach and arms, but on their mane it is a little darker than their main
body color. On its enormous feet you can see razor sharp claws that can
poke in and out. Their tail at the in is a massive tangle of fur.
Range
The Asiatic lion lives throughout Southwest Asia.
Habitat
It usually lives in the Gir forest, which is a dry deciduous forest.
The dryer eastern part of the Gir is characterized with an assortment of
plants. This part is a savanna, which gets 650 millimeters of rainfall,
but in the west it gets 1,020 millimeters.
Food/Diet
Females will catch mid sized prey while males will catch the buffaloes and giraffes. Their average intake is about 8-9 kilograms a day.
Breeding
Females can have up to 4 cubs, but litters of 2-3 are more common. Cubs are weaned at about 8 months old.
Status
As India started growing and cultivating their land where the lion lived they just about squeezed it into extinction. Because of the circumstances these lions started preying on the humans. They are now beginning to make come back slowly but surely. They have now crossed 300 lions left.
