Speedy fast facts about soccer:

World Book. 2000 ed.

In soccer there are 11 players on the field for each team. Also in soccer the only player on the team that can use their hands is the goalie; the other players can use anything from their elbows down.

There is 1 goalkeeper (goalie) per team.

The goalkeeper protects the goal so the other team doesn't score.

There are 3 defenders out on the field per team. The defenders try to take the ball from the other team and pass the ball to the midfielders. The defenders really help the goalie.

The 3 midfielders have a role in every play.

Sometimes the middlefielder scores goals, but midfielders always should be in position to help the defenders.

Lastly, the 3 forwards have the responsibility to score goals. They should be able to pass well, dribble, run fast, keep the ball in control and to shoot excellent (make a goal).
