 De Soto

He was born in 1485 in Spain. He started exploring in 1539. In 1539 De Soto and about 600 men left Cuba and sailed to the west coast of Florida. They were in search of gold. They didn't have much luck in finding gold, but they were the first Europeans to reach the Mississippi River. He also explored the American Southeast. He died in 1541.
