Prairie Dogs

Up

Prairie dogs live in Saskatchewan, Canada to the Northern parts of Mexico.  Their closely associated cousins are the marmots and the ground squirrels. Prairie dogs are about 28 to 33cm long. They make a bark like sound that is very high pitch for a warning cry. Prairie dogs live in “towns”. They dig holes that can be up to 1 to 5 m. underground. Prairie dogs groom and defend territories. They eat herbs, grasses, and other plants. The predators are hawks, snakes, eagles, and coyotes.
