First,  You choose a plastic pipet and choose a tank to gather a sample.

Next, you gently put the tip of the pipet below the water surface.  Do not disturb the plants or animals.  You squeeze the air out of the pipet and it sucks up water.

Then you squeeze some of your water sample onto a slide.

Then, place the slide on the microscope stage to look at your sample.
