The parts of a microscope

A    Revolving Headpiece:   This holds an supports the high, medium and low power objectives.  It allows you to interchange the objectives when you look at a slide.

B.    High power Objective: This objective holds the strongest lens.  It is the longest mount.

C.    Medium power Objective:  This objective holds a medium strenghth lens.  It is a long mount.

D.    Low power Objective: This objective holds a weaker lens.  It is the shortest mount.

E.    Stage:This is a flat surface where you put your slides.

F.    Light: The mirror or lamp is under the stage.  It increases the amount of light shining through the sample or the slide.

G.    Base:  This is the heavy bottom part.  This supports the microscope.

H.    Course Adjustment Knob:   This allows you to bring your sample into view guickly.  It adjusts the position of the body tube.

I.    Fine Adjustment Knob: This allow you to make  small adjustments to your sample.

J.    Stage Clip:  This holds your slides in place.

K.    Arm:  This holds the body tube in place over the stage and base.

L.    Eyepiece:  This is the part that you look through.  It contains the ocular lens - this makes the image produced by the objective's lenses larger.

M.    Body Tube:   This part holds the eyepiece in position.  It can be slanted or straight up and down.
