Pros and Cons

My best solution to save the rainforests is to ban logging in the rainforest countries forever.

Pros

Cons

It would protect the ecosystem, animals, plants, and people that live in the area.

People in those countries would still be poor and need money to pay for many items.

It would protect continued studies of plants for medicine that would benefit all people.

No one would be able to enforce that law; also no one would police large companies and other people that might harm the rainforests away from the area.

It would reduce the greenhouse effect and protect the atmosphere we breathe.

This would put an immediate end to deforestation.

This solution is almost impossible to enforce.

My second best solution to saving the rainforest is to practice selective logging. For every tree that is cut down, loggers would have to plant two new trees in its place.  The loggers would also have to make sure of the survival of the growth of the trees.

Pros
Cons

There would be twice as many trees as there were before.

You would have to establish some sort of police enforcement to make sure loggers were replanting and taking care of the new plants.

We would be restoring the rainforests.

A short-term problem is that in the areas that logging is happening, the plants and animals would be destroyed and that would upset the balance of the ecosystem.

Logging companies would still be happy because they would still be getting wood

It would take a long time to replant the trees because people have been logging trees for a long time!

Poor decisions are harmful to the rainforest.

Pros
Cons

Not a lot of people know what comes from the rainforest; they might change their ways and choices if they know about the damage they are causing.

Big business companies would try to fool the public into thinking they are helping the rainforest, sort of like the propaganda commercials from the tobacco industries we see on T.V.

Everyone can do this; even kids can make good choices!

Not everyone would care enough to change.

Another of my ideas is to establish more National parks in the rainforest.

Pros
Cons

More lands are protected.

This is also difficult to accomplish.

Promotes earth-friendly tourism that could earn income for those countries.

It would need lots of manpower and people in government to believe in this.
