Although rainforests account for only 7% of the land surface on earth they contain more than 50% possibly 90% of all plant and animal species on earth. 2.5 acres may contain 600 tree species. Compared to the United States and Canada combined they contain only 100 more species than that small portion of the rainforest. Even more amazing someone found more ant species on one stump in the rainforest than in all of the British Isles.
