Fall leaf Color: yellow, orange and light tan.
Habitat: Moist sites with other hardwoods.
Wood  Uses: Furniture, flooring, carpenters' tools, novelty wares, food containers, clothespins, charcoal production.
Wildlife Uses: Nuts: northern blue jay, wood ducks, white-footed mouse, gray squirrel, red squirrel, gray fox red fox, beaver, black bear, raccoon, white-breasted nuthatch, yellow-bellied sapsucker, tufted titmouse, red-bellied woodpecker. Nuts& buds: ruffed grouse and wild turkey. Nutes, twigs, & foliage: white-tailed deer.
Historical Uses: Fresh or dried leaves made into concoction to treat burns and frostbite; fresh bark tea used externally for skin rashes and poison ivy.
