Wildlife Uses: Seeds: bobwhite quail, eastern chipmunk, white-footed mouse. Seeds & bark: gray squirrel. Twigs & foliage: white-tailed deer Flowers: honey. Historical Uses: Inner bark used in formula for treating dysentery, heartburn; Native Americans made ropes and woven mats from the tough fibrous inner bark. |
