The School House

This Forestry School was built in 1898. It is America's first forestry school which was founded by Dr. Carl A. Schenck. The building used to be a one room community school and church for the "Pink Beds" community.

Dr. Schenck used this classroom at the campus of Biltmore Forest School and taught his "Biltmore Boys" all they needed to know about the forest. It was here they attended classes in the spring and summer. In the winter months, they met at the famed Biltmore Estate in Asheville. The forest itself was where the boys practiced what they learned.
