A chipmunk is a small striped animal that lives in North Carolina. Chipmunks have strong back legs. They eat seeds and nuts. They hibernate in the winter. 

Chipmunks are classified as rodents and are in the same family as woodchucks and squirrels. The average height is about 8 inches. They have light-colored stripes on their face, back and sides. The stripes are bordered with black. The rest of the back, legs, and tail is a reddish brown. The underside of a chipmunk is light gray and white.
