About Us

Welcome to our website!

We are members of a fifth grade class at Brevard Elementary in Brevard, North Carolina. Brevard is located in Transylvania County.  Transylvania means "across the woods," and our county is called the "Land of the Waterfalls" due to the many waterfalls.  Our small town is in a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We are only three miles from the entrance to the Pisgah National Forest, a popular tourist area.   Our team decided to do our ThinkQuest project on the forest because we live near this great national park.  We also chose this topic because we wanted to share the wonders with those who live elsewhere.

Our Visit to the Cradle

We are Ellie, Drew, Judy and Sara. When we started this project, none of us had ever done a webpage.  So everything you see, we learned during the last couple of months.  We gave up break, stayed after school, and even came on the weekend to complete it.  Deciding on the limits of the topic was a hard thing for us. We wanted to do everything!

We took a trip to the Cradle of Forestry where we had a guided tour, saw a movie, tried hands-on things, and learned a lot.  The sun was shining on that day in February when we took the pictures that you see all over this website.  The U.S. Forest Service allowed access to all the old photos and exhibits. They gave us permission to use their information and photos so you can learn about this place.  Mr. Steve gave us the tour so we could understand the history of the Birthplace of Forestry in America and the importance of plants and animals.

We read, researched and wrote about the topics we chose. When that was done, we began to learn how to design and make a web page.  We used Netscape Composer mostly but learned a little about other programs such as Front Page and Dreamweaver which let us do different things.  Paint Shop Pro helped us with the pictures, drawings, and animations.  Neat java script from the web (which we learned about by reading other ThinkQuest projects) helped us add the quiz.

We are grateful to the many people who joined "our team" by supporting us throughout the project.  Please read our AcknowledgmentsEnter and Enjoy Our Fantastic Forest!
