Do you know
where Western Coal Fields are? It is bordered by the Ohio River on the other
three sides of the Pennyroyal. The Western Coal Fields region is much like
the Pennyroyal. The land there is great for farming. Now this is mainly a
farming area. Forty-three percent of our coal is here.
This region is
the most western region in the state. The Ohio, Tennessee, and Mississippi
rivers border the Jackson Purchase. The Jackson Purchase is the only region
where natural swamps are found. This is the only area where a lot of cotton is
grown. When Kentucky became a state the Jackson purchase was not a part
of the state. It didn’t become a part until 26 years later by the Chickasaw
Indians. This area was named after Andrew Jackson, who became the seventh
president of the U.S.A.
