Old Fort Niagara Lighthouse

The Oregon Fort Niagara lighthouse was built in 1782 on top of the Fort. This was the first lighthouse on the Great Lakes. This light was taken down in 1814 and not replaced. But in 1823 it was re established and built again. This light then went into service in 1872. The U.S coastguard maintained this light until 1999 when it was discontinued. It was the French fort but the British took it from them. The British and American went to war against each other. The American took it over. It had a light on it so if some solders were seen they wold be kill by canons. It is a gift shop and a museum. It is open all year round bestir January 1 Thanksgiving Day and December 25.
