Rasputin

Grigorri Yefimovich was a mysterious, wandering Siberian monk who lived in Russia around the turn of the century. Rasputin, meaning ‘dissolute, was an alias given to him by his friends. He was said to be a servant of the devil but that was only talk.

Grigorri Rasputin was an advisor to Nicholas Romanov II, Royal Czar of Russia. Czar is Russian for emperor. Nicholas was husband to Alexandra the czarina of Russia. Alexandra had four daughters and a sickly little son named Alexis. He had hemophilia, an inherited disease where so much as a bruise can cause mass bleeding. The boy was ill most of the time and often nearly died by sneezing because of sensative veins.

Then Rasputin came to the aid of the woeful czarina, miserable for her son, by using his believed powers of healing. His efforts proved useless often but occasionally he helped to revive the boy Alexis.

As a youth Rasputin was a rowdy, drinking hoodlum with low morals. And that quality seemed to stay with him all his life. There was a great deal of time spent between Alexandra and Rasputin. And because of that factor many thought that Alexandra and Rasputin had an affair against Nicholas. This may have never happened but it has been rumored. As that theory spread the closeness between Nicholas and Alexandra lessened greatly. This was very important in the destruction of the family.

Rasputin accompanied by his healing powers was said to be immortal. Because of his rumored affair with the Empress and also of his rumored satanic practices he was sentenced to die. The executioners had to poison him, shoot him, and throw him in a frigid river to finally kill him.
