This gigantic memorial honors four of the most widely known presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Mount Rushmore is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began sculpting into the 5,725 foot mountain in 1927. The gigantic sculpture took 14 years to complete. It cost one million dollars to turn the mountain into the most presidential sculpture in United States history.Leading up to the sculpture, is the Avenue of The Flags. The Avenue of The Flags contains the flags of all fifty states and six U.S. territories. The avenue leads to Presidential Trail, a half-mile trail leading to a view of the mountain.
