- The hanging gardens of Babylon were next to
the Euphrates River about 50km from Baghdad, Iraq.
- The gardens were planned and constructed by
Hammurabi.
- The garden area was approximately 16 square
plethras.
- Nebucanezzer II was given credit for having
this fascinating wonder built.
- He built the gardens to please his
wife.
- The gardens span an area of 400 by 400 ft. And
they stand 80 ft. high.
- "Kremastos" is a Greek word for
"overhanging." But the gardens never really hung. They just looked
like they did because of the trraced balconies. See the picture
