Some teams, including the Cuban Stars and the Chicago Giants, were
“road clubs”, which meant they always traveled, playing in any stadium
available. Without a home field,
they never played in a stadium they were used to, or that gave them the home
team advantage. Often, they were
not able to use the white dressing rooms. They
had to dress in their buses or their hotels and drive to the game. Afterwards, they were sweaty and dirty, and couldn’t clean
up or take a shower. This made many
of them angry. They felt like
second class citizens.
