Roy Campanella first played for the Baltimore Elite Giants.  He was sometimes called “Campy” by his teammates.  When he was playing for the Dodgers in the majors, he was number 39 and played catcher.  In his first game, he got an amazing three hits!  He was chosen as the most valuable player for the years 1951, 1953 and 1955.  Roy helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1955.  He had a great year in 1953, in which he hit 42 home runs and had 142 RBIs!  In 1949, Roy played the entire All-Star game.  He then did the same for the years 1950-53 (an All-Star record).  When not playing, he loved helping children.  He held baseball clinics and spoke at schools.
