Josh Gibson may very well be the best slugger ever in the history of baseball. One season he hit 85 home runs! In his 17-year career, he hit 972 home runs. He also had nine home run titles, four batting titles, and the top lifetime batting average in the Negro Leagues (.374). In one game, Gibson hit a home run so far, the mayor stopped the game to measure it! Another time, he hit an upper-deck home run with one hand. According to a tale, Gibson hit a home run in Pittsburgh that no one saw come down. The next day, Gibson played in Philadelphia and, out of nowhere, a ball fell into the glove of the center fielder. The umpire said, "Yer out yesterday in Pittsburgh!" Gibson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972.
