Negro League champs took on white Major League teams after the regular season was over. In 1924, Judge Kensaw Mountain Landis (the commissioner of Major League Baseball) put a stop to this. No big league team could wear its own uniform and play Negro League teams, Landis said. From then on, white teams that played black teams were known as “all-stars”.
