There were two main reasons why the Negro
Leagues ended in 1960 after Negroes were allowed to play Major League
Baseball. The first reason that the Negro Leagues collapsed was the best
players from the top Negro League teams were signed by Major League
organizations, therefore weakening the top Negro League teams. The second
reason was the attention of the Negro League fans was quickly taken away
from the Negro Leagues as they focused their attention on the performance
of Jackie Robinson and other Negro Leaguers in the major leagues. As fan
attendance decreased at the ending of the 1940s, most Negro League teams
ended because of financial problems.
