Ivan Mackerle learned about the Death Worm from a student in Mongolia. After hearing what she said about it, he became interested and wanted to learn more. Unfortunately for him, information was rare because Mongolians didn’t enjoy talking about it. Also, the Communist government that ruled Mongolia at the time didn’t let anyone go on searches for the worm. The government called the story about the Death Worm a "fairy tale".
