The Coliseum was the place to be in about 200 AD. It was where all the big events where held. The Emperor Titus ordered it to built during his rule, but it was finished after his rule. The floor was covered in sand to soak up the blood. In the early years after it was built it could be flooded for mock sea battles. They added animal cages on the inner walls and that stopped the mock sea battles. The Coliseum was originally made of wood then stone. It could hold 45,000 people. It had special seats for the emperor and senate. Its original name was the Ampitherter. The most important thing that happened there where the gladiator fights and the beastarii, the bistaries could only fight animals. It is still standing in Rome today. There where many interesting things under the Coliseum floor there where cells and cages and secret passages. The seating arrangements where very much like those of a 1950 cruise ship. There would be royalty, senators, the rich and the common folk in that order. The coliseum is one of the best and last monuments to history.
