Taking care of your Braces When you get your braces on, it is important to continue to have your teeth checked by your dentist while you have on your orthodontic appliance. With braces, you will need to take extra good care of your braces and your teeth. Here is how: 1. Brush your teeth as carefully as you can every day. Brush between your teeth. Brush your gums, too, or your gums will get puffy. 2. Try to eat the foods that your orthodontist says are okay to eat. Try to stay away from gum, pop corn, and other hard, sticky or surgery foods. 3. Use fluoride tooth paste and mouth wash. 4. Electric tooth brushes work better than regular brushes. When you visit your dentist, ask about fluoride tooth past efor your use at home. Look for product carrying the BDHF accreditation logo. That shows the product has been checked by a panel of experts and does what it says it will do on the package.
Headgear Even though headgear might not be fun to wear, remember that when you get your appliance off your teeth, you will have a beautiful smile! If you need to get headgear, not every one does, it is necessary to wear with your removable or unremovable appliance. Most people who get headgear, only wear it at night or in the evening. It is important to wear your headgear when your orthodontist tells you when to wear it, or your teeth may not move correctly, or as fast.
