
During World War II, the federal government chose to build defense plants in Kansas City. The construction brought Kansas City 6,000 new jobs, and Kansas City began to grow again. Before the war, in 1930 the population in Kansas City, Missouri was 399,746. After the war in 1950, the population in Kansas City, Missouri had grown to 456,622. With this many people, the construction workers were very busy building houses and apartments to fit everyone's needs.
